This new map based on @theNYHC data makes it clear: it’s too easy to block affordable housing in wide swaths of the city. If you agree every neighborhood needs to do its part in solving our citywide housing crisis, vote YES on Props 2-5.

I saw someone on Instagram who basically said if in doubt vote to not change things then agitate for them to come back with a better, clearer proposal.

Do voters get any printed info on these sent in the mail like we do in CA? It gives language of issue, and then pro and con arguments.

We do, and there’s a website with the pros and cons. (And a lot of electioneering junk mail.) What makes these tricky is that the pros and cons are coming from extremely mixed groups, so entities that are often aligned on most issues are on opposite sides here. It makes the decisions tougher!

Seems like genuinely progressive people/groups are divided on these. The @nywfp.bsky.social, which is one of my guides in such things, has NOT made recommendations for these proposals. Neither have Mandani's people, as far as I can tell. So it's tricky!

The housing proposals clear a lot of bad bad red tape away. The red tape that allows single council members from blocking affordable housing or artificially inflate build timelines. Long builds/legal hurdles = more expensive apartments.

Too many council members (including some lefties) will quietly kill projects because some small group of loud voices want it gone and they want to maintain that power.

The NY WFP's seemingly conscious decision to not weigh in on this feels a bit cowardly to me. You can't work to become a major party in the state and then be quiet on the sausage making of ballot proposals. And Mamdani's silence also irks me.

FWIW it sounds like he’s in a tricky position on those, because he needs the support of a broad coalition that includes both the City Council who are against the proposals AND a number of entities who are for them. So if he says anything either way, he’ll piss off someone he needs on his side.

I'm seeing articles about city council members opposing the proposals (that would shift some power over new housing decisions from council members to the mayor), but I haven't found anything stating the @nycprogressives.bsky.social's position, if any.

If I can't understand a proposition or predict its effect, I vote "no."

FWIW, I voted “for” because the key scenario is not that the mayor will say no when the council (esp local council member said yes) but so the mayor can override the nos that are a reason so little housing gets built (Among many reasons)

That is especially important for question #4 which creates an appeals board rather than just the mayor being the final arbiter.
