The original proposed plan to just tax millionaires directly would have been a lot simpler but Hochul / Albany pushed this instead.

The City Reporter

City Council members cry foul as homeowners receive letters demanding they prove NYC residency ahead of city’s new tax on luxury second homes.

It’s worth nothing that this is actually Hochul’s tax, Mamdani was pushing for a different form of millionaires tax, and this was the compromise that Albany (the governor) agreed to. But everyone who wants to complain about it will blame the mayor for anything that goes wrong with it.

Bill Grueskin

The rollout of Mamdani’s new pied-a-terre tax is a colossal mess. The incompetence is pretty brutal. www.wsj.com/real-estate/...

If the Pro-Israel crowd in NYC got behind Brad Lander from the start instead of Cuomo there’s a good chance he could have been mayor instead of Mamdani. Instead they only wanted the person who said “I love Israel” the loudest and fiercely rejected anyone who had any solidarity with Palestinians.

At a certain point we are going to have to grapple with whether Mamdani and El-Sayed campaigns are repeatable when you aren’t facing the worst primary candidates the dem establishment has ever found

Also noteworthy that @repdangoldman.bsky.social posted this on Twitter, The Nazi App, and has still not posted a single time on Bluesky since being demolished in the primary.

Rep. Dan Goldman, who lost his primary nearly 2:1, is giving advice to democrats at 4 AM: “If you were a supporter of the Uncommitted movement — which was significantly responsible for Trump 2.0 — then you are in no position to demand anything from Democrats.”

This 💯 Sommerfeldt still gets some scoops around town but you absolutely have to read them with your thinking cap on because they are often skewed and exaggerated, especially when it comes to Mamdani. Same thing is true of most NYT reporting too though.

Tony Alfieri

It's been really interesting to see the shift in Sommerfeldt's editorial stance since his move from the Daily News to Politico.
