If peoples are fighting for a star, this is mario party. Regardless if the fight is in-game or Irl.

So the Loc-Nar and Palantirs and the prophecies from Harry Potter on one hand, and the monoliths and Borg Cubes on the other hand? Multiple sides would indicate the Gems from "Steven Universe" and "Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld," and the Silmarils and Arkenstone.

Depends. If the data is on physical media then it's cyberpunk from the '80s or earlier. If it's purely about data itself and not where it's stored, then it's '90s or later.

Don't jump to Conclusions.

So, if people are fighting for a pyramid, are they reading science fantasy?

If they are fighting over something with two sides (a banknote or a coin or a bond), it's just plain old capitalism If they are fighting over a four-sided pyramid, it's an RPG session and someone dropped a dice on the floor and someone else stepped on it and it's a Whole Thing now

Ответ для Khantalas

aaahhh... the four sided dice, the nerd's caltrops.

Ответ для Khantalas

blumineck on YouTube did video shorts on that. He goes barefoot a lot & has well-developed calluses. In one short, he strides manfully on stones, Lego, &c. Another short focuses on just how very painful D4s are.

I call it space opera. Which places it deep in fantasy territory

I mean, it's basically an epic? It has all the hallmarks of an epic tale, but with robots and aliens

Ответ для CatLady Lil

Sci-fi tries to ground its concepts mostly in real scientific theory. If they hold up to close scrutiny, it’s hard sci-fi. Fantasy makes little or no attempt to make it fit into real science. Suspension of disbelief is left entirely up to the audience. Space operas can be in either category

More sides than a cube? Must be horror.

If people are fighting for a non-Euclidean object, you're reading Lovecraft.

In Star Trek the crew got turned into these shapes at one point

More sides than a cube is horror. The more sides, the more horror it is.

If one side is fighting for a cube and the other side is fighting for a cross, you're reading historical fiction.

If they are fighting for a rectangle (banknote), it's called reality.

If it has only two sides it is a war narrative. If it has more than 4 it is a corporate espionage thriller. 😉

If they're fighting a shapeless mass, it's horror

Orb is Fantasy, Cube is Sci Fi, More Sides is Horror.

if it's got more sides it's probably the Lament Configuration and why are you people fighting over it!

If they're fighting over a truncated icosahedron, then you're probably reading a Rothmans Football Yearbook.

How many sides does Dream Island have?

My two cents on this nerd-fest in the comments: for three-dimensional figures, "sides" are called faces.

The current view of the Gallo-Roman museum on Tongeren (which holds this one) is that the dodecahedrons (over a hundred are known) are so diverse in size and details that any practical use is unlikely, and ritual use more plausible.

Ответ для Léon 🧩 Looking for Fael is OUT!

I would say an orb has only one side. Though it’s not flat side, and the approximation using flat sides would have an infinite amount of them.

Ответ для Lapys Aoneeris (fae/she 🏳️‍⚧️)

How can it have an infinite amount in a finite surface 🤯 it really is magic

Ответ для Léon 🧩 Looking for Fael is OUT!

Infinite amount of an infinitesimal size, it cancels each other out to give a finite surface. Mathemagic is weird when you play with the infinite.

Ответ для Lapys Aoneeris (fae/she 🏳️‍⚧️)

A true sphere has zero flat faces, not infinitely many. “Infinite amount” is an informal way of describing the limit, not its actual structure. 🤓

One of the ideas I want to write will have people fight over a dodecahedron. No, it’s not a a TTRPG, and the dodecahedron is the size of a small planet. I guess I’m inventing a new genre xD (Tbf, I mix fantasy and sci-fi, so that would makes sense)

And if it is amorphous, you are reading paranormal.

"If it has more side than that", probably it is cosmic horror.

and if they're fighting over five cubes, it's yet another yahtzee session turned violent brawl!

If people are fighting over 7 Koopa Hotels you might be Hotel Mario

If they are fighting with *highly* focused beams of light, its SciFi. If the beams of light are only locally focused then its Fantasy.

I tend to use this ⬇️ as a guide.

If people are fighting over an icosahedron, it's your D&D group falling apart.

More side, it's Lovercraftian horror.

When the object has so many sides it appears like an orb and science is indecipherable from magic.

If people are fighting over a pyramid it can be either sci-fi or fantasy. Sometimes even a combination of both.

Useful information to clarify: If there are more sides, and the object being fought over is a gemstone, it’s fantasy. Additionally, if the orb being fought over is a power source, then it’s sci-fi. However, if the cube being fought over is gelatinous results are indeterminate.
