I just love my citation management software. For me, it’s in the same category as wifi, plumbing, and electricity. Most of the royalty throughout the history of the world could not have even imagined the luxuries I enjoy

i also 'store' pdfs in the downloads folder, but that's actually a bit misleading because when i need a pdf, i do not retrieve it from the downloads folder, where it may well be stored. i just go back to the internet and download it again

I even download my own sometimes- with all the nicely organized source data and supplementary tables. That way l don’t have to log in to the server and sign in to lab database

You uncultured fool. I save the pdf with the file name containing the words I know I’ll use to look it up in the finder search bar later. This in turn allows me to see the number of times I forgot that I did that and downloaded it again. This is usually 2+

Maybe one day someone will invent a search function that looks on the internet and on your computer instead of us having separate ones for each

I once organised thousands of books and articles by year, last name, first name, publisher, etc. took ages. I then put all the documents on a massive external drive and lost it

What scale of library are we talking about here? Because it it’s 500 items then this may be defensible (it’s not, but I’m trying to be kind). But not with 5000 items.

I use Zotero only as a pdf manager and do my references manually. I've never really liked the reference generation feature (the template for the Brazilian standard didn't fit well with the program when I learned it and I've never bothered to check again)
