There is some ambiguity over "atheist" versus "nones." Atheist is seen as being militant in some way as opposed to none being "I don't think about a god as significant in my life." Still, part of the "scary" religions are seen as more prevalent, rule.

I saw that and immediately remembered how the Evangelicals I grew up with were BIG mad in high school when they found out that Catholics were also Christian.

This also communicates something rather dismal about the public's overall grasp of math. (I am laughing at how high the estimated percent of Catholics is. RCC got swag.)

Giving me middle school flashbacks of all the evangelicals asking me if I was Christian or Catholic and being confused af as a Catholic.

Yeah that's certainly A Choice. I can understand separating Catholic and Protestant in some contexts, but this not that

Funnily enough, if you disregard Catholic as being included in Christian (even though it's NOT), the red bar totals 130%. If you include Catholicism as its own category, it's 169%. Clearly as a nation we are so good at math we can get an extra 69 per hundred.

I grew up in an extremely Catholic area and we definitely made the distinction. “Christians” was a polite way to say “heretic.”

That always infuriates me

Evangelical christians often don't think that Catholics are actually christians. My aunt (raised catholic and converted to evangelical as an adult) once told my mom (her sister, also raised catholic and still practicing) that she should go to a christian church.
