"We shouldn't punish the rurals for what the Republicans have done because we're better than that" is one reason we should bring back pork. If reps of rural constituencies want their voters to benefit they should be forced to actually do politics for it instead of voting no and taking credit.
I think about this kinda thing a lot. People tend to idealize their ancestors as hardworking folk who just wanted the best for their family. But I suspect most of us wouldn’t have to go back more than a few generations to find murderers and other criminals doing some genuinely awful things.
