Just watched it again. Great movie!

She was truly brilliant. Very very scary, as was the whole movie. Honestly the accuracy of the Overlook Hotel sets was so impressive it felt like they had moved onto Dad’s stages over night. I’m also a bit of a McGregor fan :)

I loved the movie (and book) I feel like they did a great job of bridging the original movie to the book (which of course was very different).

The ultimate villain: A woman who makes "wearing a hat" her whole identity.

I loved the book and the movie.

One of my favorite movies of the last 10 years. One reason I loved it (one of the reasons I loved Weapons too), is that the scope was small. It wasn’t “the world” at risk - it was the small world inhabited by just a few main characters. Meaning we really felt for the characters

Not gonna lie: I went in pretty skeptical. And was delighted and the whole vibe. Really great stuff.

Yeah, I liked Doctor Sleep. Knew it couldn't live up to as heavily mythologized of a movie as The Shining as a direct sequel, so it took a slightly different approach - same angle that made 2010 work for me.

I love the fact that when Rose is in the supermarket, she has a can of Peanut Patch boiled peanuts in her basket. Yes!!

I didn't know others felt like I do?! Rose the Hat is Pennywise with a gym membership.

It really was excellent. Aside from everything that was great about it in itself, because I could go on much too long- did anyone else see the baby vision as a gruesome Ewan McGregor easter egg? I thought he got across the way a lifelong addict isn't emotionally an adult really well.

I’ve still never seen Dr. Sleep. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because I loved the Stanley Kubrick change from King’s supernatural to not supernatural, just crazy. I think that makes The Shining film more compelling. I may be delaying viewing Dr. Sleep because it based more on the King novel.

I finally watched that movie a couple of weeks ago and I was like how the hell had I not seen it before. It's a great horror movie and obviously helmed by one of my favorite directors, Mike Flanagan. 10/10

I skipped past this movie a few times but I will check it out now.

It's not the film The Shining was, but I like it more. It has more heart and a better message. Instead of "I've got a story about madness and isolation and murder and I'm torturing an actress to tell it", it's a story about responsibility, growth, redemption and helping kids be their best selves.

Could have done without the hat. More Ferguson, less hat.

I really liked it. I’ve watched it at least two times. I thought they did a good job with Dan’s character -it’s logical that he would have some type of “twisted” psyche from the trauma he went through. I liked how the chef from the hotel still visited him. I love the character of “Rose the Hat”

What happened to the young mom and her baby?

Just watched it last week! Absolutely loved it! I genuinely wish it was a mini-series.

Everything he does is amazing and deserves more love!

Love this movie. 💜 It be cool if they make a sequel to this one with the Abra ( not sure if that was her name…the girl that Danny helps). One of her going up against other soul suckers like those she faced it before, but this time she is older & more experienced.

The book describes Rose as middle aged, tall and dark haired. My pick would have been Famke Janssen.

It was excellent! I wish they had called it “Doctor Sleep, the Shinning Part 2” because I think it would have really done well at the box office. I didn’t read the book so had no idea of the connection until actually watching the movie. It should have made a lot more money! & Rose was phenomenal!

I just saw this again the other day and was impressed. Rose the Hat is a great villain, Kyleigh Curran was top notch as Abra, and Flanagan perfectly recalled scenes from The Shining without them looking like cheap fan service. For example, without drawing attention to it, did anyone else notice

I was impressed by this film! I had forgotten McGregor was even in it til I watched it... there's just a couple things that deviated from the book as I remembered them, but none were deal-breakers. A fine film.

I have bought this twice: the first release, and then the director's cut bc I love all things Flanagan. This is one of my favorites.

Maybe a Hot Take. I wasn't a huge fan of the Shining movie until I saw Dr. sleep. It made it matter to me. The only part of the movie I hated was the baseball kid scene. It just went on too long and I am overly sensitive.

Finally got around to seeing it. The watched it again the next day. For me, it's a rare instance of the director's cut being essential. Yes, a couple scenes are a bit too long...but every second with Danny in the hotel is essential.

I liked it a lot - especially his scenes in the home, helping the people pass. Moving.

Just watched it. I always worry that the movie is going to suck & be forever linked in my head to a good book (heads up do not watch the remake of Firestarter) but they did a good job.

I would love to see the cast return for Mike Flannigan to turn this into a limited series. The book had so much depth created in its parallel narratives that a movie just could not capture ... A limited series would be brilliant.

One of the few decades later sequels that is actually a good movie on its own merits (and not just good as a nostalgia exercise.)

This one scarred my son. It was King's way of fixing the Kubrick version of The Shining, which was a very good movie that bore little resemblance to the novel King wrote.

Might be my favorite Flanagan flick. The extended cut is supreme.

I didn't know who Ferguson was until Dune and then Silo. She's absolutely fantastic. She stood out in Dr. Sleep which I watched during the pandemic -- chilling. I read the book a couple of years before and found her portrayal to be quite accurate.

There was a lot that Mike Flanagan had to take into consideration when he set to make this, but the fact that it managed to work out in the end sold me. Watching the Director's Cut with my dad in his old apartment is something I definitely won't forget.

One of the best fuckin scenes ever was the part in the forest where Danny and the dad fucking massacre the entire dreameater horde with Remingtons after they spent the whole movie hyping them up as this horrifying force lmao.

Love it, but not sure about the third act. The hotel didn't seem to operate the way it did in the first one. I guess they didn't have time for the hotel to slowly consume Rose the Hat.

They should have cast Ray Nicholson as Jack Torrence.

I feel it was a nice bow on the package that is Stephen King. It helps draw the connections between multiple King movies, from The Shining to Dreamcatcher.

Just rewatched this a week ago. It’s not bad, but like most King movies, it didn’t live up to the book. I wish they had gone with the fact Abra really WAS Dan’s niece in the book. I’m torn on the whole final sacrifice scene. I preferred the book ending which was more hopeful.

To my surprise, my life partner agreed to watch both movies (on Halloween). She liked "Dr. Sleep" better, because she connected with the characters. (Kubrick was brilliant, but there's often a sort of cold distance from the characters.)

Okay... will do. Something tells me I should check this one out.

Sorry, but the film's ending goes somewhere other than the book's ending. Never was I more disappointed in an adaptation of a King book.

The thing that I don’t understand is why Flanagan chose to do a sequel of Kubrick’s Shining, instead of a sequel of Mick Garris’s Shining, which is not only good, but truer to the book and Stephen King approved… was that even considered?

Instead of being hated for Warner using King’s book to try and audition another pop 80’s title as their next house marketing icon in the late 10’s. (And when DID The Shining become a beloved 80’s Thing?—ISTR we hated it at the time. Was it really Ready Player One?)

I enjoyed it. It reminded me unexpectedly of Silent Hill 2 in some places. Especially the bit with the hotel bar room.

I'll have to give this a watch. While I mostly liked the book, I didn't think Rose was very scary in the book, and was dispatched to easily. Many replies here say she's terrifying in the movie - so weirdly looking forward to that...

While I confess that I checked out this movie just to see the recreated Overlook Hotel sets, I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually an interesting story and a fun ride.

I still say doctor sleep deserves the dead zone TV show treatment where it focuses on. Danny Torrance working in the hospital guiding lost souls to the other side

My brother just told me about this film a year ago. I couldn't believe I hadn't heard about it. And it is a really excellent film. And Rose the Hat was terrifying ...

I can't tell you how many times I've watched this. Rebecca Ferguson is deliciously evil in this. Ewan McGregor was great as the damaged, adult Danny and Kyliegh Curran as Abra was a standout performance. Great backstory with the director Mike Flanagan and Stephen King.

The idea that Danny would grow up traumatized and an alcoholic was the most realistic idea

Excellent movie, I'd follow Flanagan anywhere and every role is perfectly cast and performed.

It did nothing for me. Maybe I had read the book too recently, but the whole thing felt like a pale imitation
