fandaniel really thought he was doing some kind of fun sicko powerplay by possessing his partner-in-crime's dead lover only to find out that the situation was way stupider than he ever could have imagined

I guess my other annoyance with ppl complaining that HOTD isnt like the book is that Fire & Blood is actually quite bad. As well as basically being a lorebook, its got GRRM's worst habits (extremely contrived writing, misogyny up the wazoo, some real juveline ideas of whats cool) +

More HOTD (fandom) thoughts, I swear there's been a noticeable rise in "oh the writers want you to dislike x character and portray them shallowly but I actually find them sympathetic" and then you get to the actual scene and its the character being portrayed as sympathetic and nuanced

Rings of Power also had this issue in S1 when it felt like the OCs (the harfoots, the southlanders) had the most consistently written arcs

Thinking about how my current favourite subplot in HOTD is the Gwayne/Ormund/Daeron one and thats bc 2/3 of these characters in the source material are literally just names so the writers are free to build their characters from the ground up.

Oh yeah but even as an anthology you'd have the issue of several prominent characters with pretty grey arcs having like 3 lines if characterisation that can be interpreted wildly
