I've posted about MASCOTs a few times, the N. Bay integrated transit plan. It's such a good news story, where several service providers came together to remove duplicative service and create an operator-agnostic plan. SMART ridership is way up, and GGT is up 22% even with 12% fewer service hours!

Our car is old enough not to have a backup camera (it's also a Mini), but I *always* back into parking spaces if at all possible. It's far safer to pull out of a spot than to back out of one.

The rare bit of good traffic safety news. Backup cameras work, and have meaningfully reduced severe injuries among kids under 5 years old caused by backovers. We can argue that cars are too big in the first place, limiting visibility, but this is good tech.

A while ago, I was at a coffee shop in North Berkeley and a truly *ancient* man pulled up and had such a hard time parallel parking, revving his manual transmission car over and over, that me and two other couples got up from our sidewalk tables to move to a safe distance. bsky.app/profile/urba...

This ambiguity is weaponized by bad faith actors and repeated by useful idiots. "Our community cannot support more luxury, market rate housing. We need 100% affordable housing *only*!" Is something that you will hear from people portraying themselves as liberals but are actually conservatives.

"We should require cities to permit more affordable types of market rate housing in order for 100% of units to be affordable, which is why requiring 100% Affordable units is a bad idea." ...is a statement that is actually true within the language of housing and also baffling to a normal person.

I have lived in housing that is affordable (most housing in Baltimore is) but have never sought to live in Affordable housing, which most of my life I would not have qualified for.

The problem is that affordable housing (housing that normal people can afford) and capital A Affordable housing (deed restricted units typically subsidized by higher rents in other apartments) are indeed two different things. But they are often conflated in heated discussions.
