But fossil fuel operators do support a specific kind of "environmentalist"- that just happens to oppose renewable energy in order to "preserve landscapes"- all the time! Fossil fuel interests LOVE themselves an "environmentalist" who's just a NIMBY in outdoor gear.

Sarah TaberOk so this lady says solar panels are getting built on "the most productive farmland" in her area. Which just ain't true at all. It ain't true here in NC either. Where I ALSO hear that talking point over & over again. Smells like astroturf! So let's get the dirt on solar farms & dirt ✨
"Acton did not show up, her campaign manager barred Arienne Childrey—Vice Chair of the party’s Pride Caucus, a transgender candidate for the Ohio House, and Ohio’s first openly trans city council member—from even entering the Zoom call. When another advocate demanded to know why, she was ejected."
Erin Reed1. In the aftermath of forcing the Ohio Progressive Caucus to delete criticism of Amy Acton for calling trans girls "boys," progressives were promised a meeting with Acton. Now, we have learned she didn't show up, and kicked trans people out of the meeting. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Squishiness on trans rights is a dealbreaker for me because (a) it’s a straightforward issue of personal freedom and bodily autonomy much like abortion, and (b) the right is obviously coming after us cis gays next.
ashley 🌹trans rights frankly is a top 5, potentially top 3 issue for me despite not being trans and not having any trans family being bigoted against trans folks not only hurts my trans friends and every trans person but is so predictive of further bigotry

Chicago teen shares his experience in ICE detention centers: I am 18 years old and I just graduated from high school in Chicago. I was in ICE detention for 2 months and 10 days. They kept me in solitary for 2 days for no reason, alone in a room with just a toilet. They never let us go outside.

Running out of body bags, using forklifts to transfer corpses into makeshift morgues, a mortician conducting 200 funerals in a month when he usually does 30, crematories running at double capacity… And these senators just want to memory-hole it all www.nytimes.com/2020/04/30/n...
Good stuff. Hard to argue with this position.
Aaron RuparFauci accuses Rand Paul of having an "unhinged obsession with calling for my prosecution" and of making "repeated slanderous comments," then says "although it pains me to do so... under advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the 5th Amendment to refrain from answering your questions."

I am totally bored by this discussion because I work in the theatre, where friends (so-called or otherwise) are 1000x times more savage than this every smoke break
Tom & LorenzoPeople don't seem to want to admit that "I would be ashamed to have written any part of this" is shockingly harsh language for the average film review. She's within her rights to say it, and she knew exactly the response she would get for it, but it's definitely an eyebrow-raiser

Fundraisers are important as Haitians are mass-fired from their jobs. But we also need Congress to act to RESTORE people’s LEGAL status. Call your senator and urge them to cosponsor S.4814 to extend TPS for Haitians for 3 years! 🇭🇹🇺🇸💙✊ drive.google.com/file/d/1XXEs...
S. 4814 Script .PNGdrive.google.comAaron Reichlin-MelnickAs of this week, hundreds of thousands of Haitians lost their legal status. Most have lost work permits as well. That's left many people unable to support themselves. Here is a verified link to a fundraiser supporting Haitians in Springfield. Please drop links to other fundraisers in the replies.

As is typical, the Times omitted the voices of trans students affected by these policies and then did a flattering profile of a organizations whose entire existence is predicated on pushing trans people out of society.
Alejandra CaraballoI've spent the last two months putting together this exhaustive analysis of the New York Times coverage of trans people. It covers 3,242 articles over 12 years. In 2022, the NYT shifted towards a hostile stance towards trans people in their framing. www.thedissident.news/exclusive-ho...

The reason NYC's consolidation of surrounding jurisdictions into one big city government was never copied was because *it worked* and the wealthy realized that municipal fragmentation served their interests much better bsky.app/profile/ones...
#1 Shoup FanIt’s interesting that this was basically never copied even though it was part of a wave of progressive reforms in the 19th century. I guess no city was large enough before the wave of changes that made places want to split and not consolidate in the 20th century

All of the non-farmland in Baltimore County, plus Ellicott City in Howard County and Glen Burnie and points north in Anne Arundel County, should be part of the City of Baltimore and would be if the 1948 state constitutional amendment permanently freezing the City's borders were abolished
