You’re telling Beshear to simply ignore Kentucky state law, which removed the governor’s power to appoint a replacement senator. He’s supposed to call for a state election to do that if necessary. Beshear could go to court. But it’s far from clear that he would win, even wearing big boy pants.

Yes, he could take it to court. I wonder how many minutes (or years) it would take for the courts to decide? And would the GOP-controlled SCOTUS weigh in? My point is, it’s not necessarily simple or easy for Dems in Republican-controlled states to ignore state laws.

May everyone who voted for Trump or didn’t bother to vote in 2024 burn in hell. The GOP could not have been clearer about their intentions before the 2024 election, even publishing project 2025 online for everyone to read.

Apparently Kentucky State law means nothing. 🤷🏻‍♀️ If Dems want to have power, they’re going to have to vote for Dems to have power. Giving the GOP full control of virtually everything, then whining that Dems don’t have power, is not an excellent strategy.

Of course, the Gov Beshear can ignore Kentucky state law. But just because he can ignore it doesn’t mean everyone else will. The reason Trump can ignore the law is because the GOP controls both the US Congress & SCOTUS. Does Beshear have the same setup in the state of Kentucky?

Probably because in 2024, state Republicans removed his right to replace a US Senator if they die or become incapacitated. Kentucky state law now requires the governor to call a special election so voters can choose the next senator.
