The dogma Immigrants = Bad became dogma over a period of years -- I'm glad there is at long last a little pushback in the centrist media. However don't let this become a new liberal argument for ignoring climate change & imperialism. Keep asking why thousands of people need to flee their homes.

Watching "Soulm8te" just makes me want to watch "Companion" -- a film with far better acting and writing, driven by far fewer tired sexist tropes -- again

A lot of activism is indistinguishable from a grift "Imagine the smallest reform you can. We've focus-groupped a reform a fraction the size of that. "To ensure we never achieve it, we're using organizing methods proven to never work. "And we need YOU to volunteer your time and money for it!"

Had to run all over the city to find this perfectly mundane Thingy, because hardware and home improvement stores have all decided to cut back on actual hardware to make room for candy aisles and cheaply made pocket knives

A repost about Ceuta began, "immigration needs to be regulated, but..." Now just one minute. Rest of the post was about opposing imperialism. Sure. Good. What about how we didn't have immigration restrictions until we were centuries deep into this whole imperialism thing? At *least* examine that

Leftists support migrants because they believe a human being's worth should not be dependent on where they were born. Some people who consider themselves part of "the left" are actually just reactionary nationalists of the subaltern class, who would instantly be on the right if their side ever won.

Superficially this sounds great...but as with the "legitimate interest" clause in GDPR, the law actually gives its blessing to a lot of repugnant practices (eg using AI to evaluate asylum seekers' applications) as long as a vague quality standard is maintained when inspectors are looking

🔹 AI-generated media, ‘deepfakes’ must be clearly labelled as such 🔸Chatbots and virtual agents must explicitly state they aren't human 🔹You must be told when AI is actively analysing you, like biometrics, emotion tracking → link.europa.eu/gTvhRX

The people who have been lobbying for years to gamble Social Security on the stock market, despite decades of evidence that this would be a deeply negligent and irrational thing to do, would absolutely give Grok control of the nuclear weapons fortune.com/2026/06/14/s...

Social Security faces steep cuts. These senators want to bet on stocks and $27 trillion in debt to save it—but 'the gamble does not always pay off' | Fortune"As a result, the most likely outcome is that in the 75th year, the government will end up with a big pile of debt, requiring large interest payments."fortune.com

anyone willing to give me a briefing on the practicalities of using samples of songs on a podcast? I have a podcast idea but it doesn't really work without being able to play some tracks where finding the licensing information might be a struggle.

Alexander Rodchenko was a master of using simple geometric shapes and cut-out photographs to create inspiring and memorable posters. He had this aesthetic figured out a hundred years ago. AI won't make a good flyer. Your imagination, a pair of scissors, a ruler and a set of magic markers will.

The genetic essentialism espoused by the makers of Strange New Worlds has the worrying implication that they see the Sundering, the Vulcan-Romulan split, as a race war of the kind seen in white supremacist fantasies #SNW

Motors have some weird lexical gaps. The two main bits are the rotor and the stator. The rotor rotates. The stator doesn't move. It is static, stationary. But if you say the stator statates, or that the rotor is rotic or rotionary, you sound like an axe murderer.

I was raised with the myth that the Eastern Bloc was devoid of culture. I'm always happy to see it disproved. This music video from 1972 Hungary would've fit in perfectly well with the contemporary UK scene. The lyrics are an environmentalist critique of urban sprawl. www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMni...
