The funny thing is that I had a stylist for the show…and I basically looked like I’d turned-up on Vesuvius wearing exactly what I’d have worn anyway 😂

We took a friend's teenagers to North Wales once and ended up looking for interesting rocks. Had to laugh when one of them picked one up, looked at it and then threw it away saying "ah, that's not a rock, it's just a stone"

My wife had no idea there were different types of rocks and knew nothing about plate tectonics until we got together and started taking road trips, and I described to her the geologic processes which formed the mountains we were looking at on the road, and roadcuts. She became fascinated.

It’s borderline magic. But better. It’s science.

This. I never get tired of the reaction when someone realises the sheer amount of information about 🌍 past we can get from 'any old rock' or 'any old fossil'. Especially when people learn we can tell the temperature of ancient oceans and continents from fossil shells. 🤯

If the scientists involved in Tom Hiddleston Emotes About Pompeii are all labelled 'HELPFUL GEOLOGIST', 'HELPFUL SCIENTIST' I may honestly add it to the 'once this hits five shows I turn Disney Plus on for a month' list.

I visited our campus in Kalgoorlie for a meeting and as part of it we had a visit to the “Superpit”. One of my colleagues who is a geologist gave us the most fantastic off the cuff presentation about what we were looking at. It was great.
