I do too! I didn’t know about this - I assumed it was because of the gigantic risk involved with him being a PEP who embodied all the worst risks of being a PEP.

The only moderating force in British politics is the public, I think. The electorate recoiling in disgust from Sir Keir’s horrible Labour Party is more or less the only example of an elite political/media project hitting a hard limit that can’t be overcome with all-channels shitehousing.

The thing to note here is less that British politics lavishly rewards the right type of crackpot. It’s that there is just no moderating force at all: there’s nobody and nothing telling this guy and his media mates “gentlemen, you are overdoing it here and making all of us look absolutely terrible”.

That guy is by no means unique. Many, many more like him.

You might think this is an *astonishingly* crooked career path, and that this type of person thriving within our political system suggests it is malignant and predatory. But I’m afraid this is just the type of thing that happens in Britain, and the kind of person the system is designed to benefit.

This ex-Labour MP quit, avoiding a sexual harassment investigation; set up an opaquely funded “anti-extremism” campaign that was all over TV and radio in a general election urging the public to vote Tory; was then given a peerage (a non-job for life in the legislature) by Tory leader Boris Johnson…

If banks in the U.K. even *reasonably suspect* the kinds of shenanigans coming out about Farage *may at some point happen* they’ll generally cut off service.

Remember when Farage claimed he was “debanked” by Coutts because they disagreed with his politics and everybody in the country just sort of nodded along
