As back-of-house tutor in the food technology and hospitality class at his Michigan prison Christopher teaches two to five students a day to cook gourmet meals that about 70 staff members buy for $4 to $8, with proceeds going back into the class budget.

I spent the spring semester studying the history of journalism by incarcerated writers in the United States, plus why it is such a critical thing to support voices coming from a world as opaque as the US prison system. Prison Journalism Project inspired my project and assisted my project.

Just because a person finds themselves in prison, doesn't mean they've stopped being human. That in combination with an understanding of the unfair nature of our justice system is why I support the Prison Journalism Project.

it’s important that we see articles about what is actually happening in prisons. they’ve been journalists since before the recent rise of fascism and we need them now more than ever.
