Exhilarated to share a 2nd @science.org cover article this month from our lab @ucberkeleyofficial.bsky.social! A collaboration with US & Mexico colleagues on the role of a Mexican biogeographic holding pen in shaping the Great American Biotic Interchange (GABI)(1/11) www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Happy #FossilFriday from Chile! 🇨🇱 This is the Holotype of Aristonectes quiriquinensis, an elasmosaurid plesiosaur from the Late Cretaceous of central Chile (Biobío Province, Quiriquina Fm). It was so cool to finally see this specimen after years of visiting Chile for field work and research.
For #FossilFriday, the enigmatic trace fossil Lumbricaria, interpreted as fecal strings left by ammonites, from the Late Jurassic (~150 mya) Solnhofen Limestone, Germany & seen earlier this week in the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Pittsburgh PA. 🧪🪨💩 ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2021PPal....
Great write-up by @pgreenfielduk.bsky.social on our paper in @natecoevo.nature.com www.theguardian.com/environment/... on the impact of generative AI on biological recording #Ornithology #UKBirding 🪶🌍 1/2
Our new commentary rdcu.be/ftx6h in @natecoevo.nature.com written with folks from @inaturalist.bsky.social and @cornellbirds.bsky.social shows that use of AI to manipulate existing or create new wildlife images undermines the huge value of vast citizen science databases. 🌍🪰🪶 #Ornithology 🧵 1/10
Enjoyed visiting both the Carnegie Museum of Art & Natural History Museums in Pittsburgh PA yesterday, both world-class institutions. An ichnological highlight for me? Seeing what I think is still the largest known eurypterid trackway, made by a 2.3 meters (7.5 feet) long eurypterid: oh my. 🧪🪨🌊🦂🐾
Happy to share this 'capstone' project from my time as a postdoc @umich.edu, where we show that hierarchically nested bursts of body-shape evolution may underlie much of perching-bird diversification over ~50 million years. Free access link here: rdcu.be/fuxB1
