Thinking about the art and history of paleontology in museums. Exhibit developer at the Field Museum, opinions my own. he/him Website: extinctmonsters.net

Pam Gaible is probably the best natural history mountmaker there ever was. I've been admiring her work since I was a kid and it's been such a privilege to work with her. Wishing Pam a happy retirement this #FossilFriday!

Good news this Halo remake rules

Thinking about the spectacular mix of irrelevance, tastelessness, historical inaccuracy, and aesthetic unpleasantness that is the “children of stardust” conclusion to the NCMNS fossil exhibit. (The rest of the exhibit quite nice).

My colleagues at the Field recently completed this display with Native collaborators. It replaces a section of Ancient Americas that previously included items removed from graves. A small but important step in the right direction.

Post a perfect album from the 90s that isn’t Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, or Alice In Chains (quoted post is the other correct answer)

Narrative damage control is just another more way one person using genAI to take a “shortcut” creates way more work for everyone around them

Cat Manning

One thing I’m noticing is that one rogue person not embedded with the team (or on the team but not empowered to drive decisions) will do or say some bullshit with genAI, even if it doesn’t reflect the team’s practices. and it is MUCH harder to dispel that narrative once it’s out there.

Ok but the kids would be so ruthless to this thing I might end up feeling bad for it 😭

The teachers' union at the New York high school set to have a humanoid robot this fall speaks out for the first time here I also talked to locals and @nysut.bsky.social president Melinda Pearson www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Forgot to do a Fossil Friday and I’m jealous of all of you at shindig and dinocon this weekend so…here’s the backrooms Torosaurus display and raptured Pleistocene megafauna at MPM

At MPM today. This diorama landscape with the star animals and label removed made me feel some kind of way. A liminal space, as the kids would say.

I'm trying very hard to stay positive about the Milwaukee Public Museum's forced move and rebuild. But these renders of the Africa dioramas look *so* small compared to the immersive tableaus they're replacing. 😐

I can't say enough good things about @blairbraverman.bsky.social's storytelling on What to Carry, What to Burn. Every episode leaves me misty eyed.

Pleased to hear that After the Age of Dinosaurs (our psychedelic take on the early Cenozoic) is free for kids through the end of the summer! Normally an $8 add-on ticket.
