The 2026 U.S. midterm election is in 97 days— about 14 weeks. A new Congress will be seated in 22 weeks. The next presidential election is in 118 weeks. The winner’s inauguration is scheduled to take place in 129 weeks. It seems like a long time but it’s not. Everyone is hurtling into the future!

you know, at least U.S. business journalism spent a lot of time making it very clear this IPO was a fraudulent lie only made possible because the country is too corrupt to have functional regulators

Spider-Mans is surely correct here because there are both distinct Spider-Men (Miles Morales, Ben Reilly, Miguel O’Hara) and also a super weird alternate reality character called Spiders Man, which is thousands of spiders imprinted with Peter Parker’s consciousnes squeezed into a spandex suit.
Molly Whiteenjoying imagining the discussion among editors in which they determined if this ought to be pluralized as Spider-Mans, Spider-Men, or Spiders-Man

A must read and eminently entertaining, to boot.
Anna BowerEarlier this month, a New York Times journalist was watching “The Sheep Detectives” when FBI agents showed up at his door with a subpoena. Last week, a judge had some questions. It didn’t go well for the Justice Department. My dispatch from the NYT hearing: www.lawfaremedia.org/article/the-...

Minnesota has a law almost exactly like the EU that bans the AI generation of child pornography. Elon says he will challenge Minnesota in court to vindicate his right to flood social media everywhere with child pornography. He's a Platinum card member of the Epstein class, after all.

There’s a certain karma in wildly inaccurate claims about shoplifting leading to the destruction of Walgreens’ bottom line but I still wish I could buy some toothpaste without waiting five minutes for an employee to answer a buzzer
Sam Adamsamong my less provable beliefs is that zeroing out customer–cashier interactions has contributed to the unraveling of social cohesion. Humans need to banter!

you can go to the big local music festival after an eight year hiatus and your back is going to feel fine. you don’t have to worry about wearing your special shoes or watching how much you drink, it’s fine. and there won’t be kids there saying “this festival started when I was nine.” it’s all fine
“The U.S. Justice Department is prosecuting an American for allegedly providing U.S. border authorities with a passcode that wiped the contents of his phone, according to an indictment and media reports”
Phil Lewis“This is thought to be the first known case in the United States where federal prosecutors have charged someone for the alleged destruction of data using a ‘duress’ password built into a phone’s software”
Flattened, indeed. She said she enjoyed the movie for what it was! It was not a literal shot for shot recreation of Homer’s epic. Knowing how it deviates from the source is interesting, and she’s an expert on the original.
Jeff VanderMeerHmmm. I read the Emily Wilson review of Nolan's The Odyssey and not sure what the hubbub is about. Are negative reviews not allowed anymore? Some nuance of her points seems flattened in the criticisms of the review, too.

Today's Reliable Sources lead: One year after President Trump signed the bill rescinding all federal funding for CPB, neither the greatest fears of public media fans nor the greatest hopes of detractors have come true. PBS and NPR are still alive and kicking... www.cnn.com/newsletters/...
