There are actual clips of Abdul saying he's a capitalist. Abdul is basically center-Left. Wants medicare for all & stopping overseas military adventures/aid which dont serve the US. If you're a registered Democrat and disagree with that platform you share more in common with MAGA than liberalism.

Its even worse than that. The brutal truth is that nobody in positions of power in Europe wants to admit publicly that the US govt is enagaged in a hybrid war on Europe. Europeans essentially want to live in the 1990s. They dont want to face this. They hope Clinto/Obama will come back in 2 years.

Roland you've done wll for yourself....what on earth are you doing. Take the wife or girlfriend or daughter out for a drink and ave your self from such crassness! Life is too short to concern yourself with Katie Price.

Given that over the last year the Polish Zloty has gone from the dizzying hieghts of 1 Euro = 4.26 to today's,...well 1 Euro = 4.31 Zloty im not exactly sure what their point is. Given the additional frictions of the polish currency Poland has gained no additional real cost advantage fair or unfair.

We do know. I literally watched Govt bussing them in. The information coming out of US also backs up that it was a planned Morrocco-US hybrid war tactic to rattle Spain and a lesson to others. European countries should suspend any agreements tey have with Morocco and reaslise they are under attack.

<weary sigh> The "oh lets not try something that works in countries with more social mobility because it wont work with our class system" gambit. If you want to change the class system the 1st place you would start is making private schools redundant.

000

There simply isnt the hard dividing line on private to state schools there is here which means to a certain extent that well off parents calculate they can get what they want from a state school - this is a good thing for social mobility.

Mate I live here. Any school system will have flaws. And German is not the easiest language to undertake exams if its your 2nd language. My niece who is half thai half German is a whizz at language and was made Klassensprecher aged 11 despite only being 8 when she moved here from Singapore.

Sam I live in Germany. One of the reasons Germany has more social mobility is PRECISELY due to the schooling system. The UK has streaming - its called getting your children into private school so you delay them even meeting working class kids till university or later.

UK system was never like Germany. UK always treated subjects like engineering as 2nd rate to getting a nice job in the city. Germany never had those old imperial schools that educated British boys for empire & the city. Many English grammar schools essentialy followed private schools and so on..

This is a long way of saying you either get streaming or you get elite ptivate schools sucking up all the clever students from well of families. Neither is meritocratic but former in my view is much better at delivering social mobility.

Indeed rich parents will tend to send their kids to private schools if they are worried about them missing out on a Abitur school. Thats why private schools are often seen as for rich idiots and its quite usual for members of elite to have attended local state school.

ITs a bit more complex than that. The British top 10% send their kids to private schools. These exist in Germany but apart from a few aristocratic ones the divide between these is less than in UK. German well off parents are quite happy for their kids to go to state schools due to streaming.

Secondly, the role of say engineering is higher in Germany which means you get all sorts studying it and thats an area where mobility is easier than the traditional middle class haunt of fancy liberal arts degree then off to a "middle class job in London" path many well off Brits do.

I live in Germany & its complex. One of the reasons many well off Gemans send their kids to state schools as its precisely the sorting which gives them confidence to skip private schools which are often still seen as "schools for rich idiots who need extra help".
