If anything, going after Wolverine could've had a bigger impact. If they went after Tokon, Sony would just write it off as another live service bust & not attribute it to any boycott.

Realistically, I’m thinking the first year is going to have a Cosmic slant. And based on ASW’s wording of the existing roster in other interviews, it does sound like DLC will be themed to a certain extent.

The other glaring absences from other stages were Scott & Jean not being in the X-Mansion stage, which was explained right away with Phoenix Cyclops being in Year 1. So yeah, barring the prequel comic saying that he's dead, Thor is likely coming. And if not him, someone else will take the mantle.

He's eerily missing from the Asgard stage & has a suspiciously-high-poly statue model in the NYC stages alongside Steve & Tony's (both of whom look clearly pulled from their classic costumes, which was very likely the case for Steve).

Ironically, given that Tokon started development around 2020-2021, part of me wonders if this movie swayed ASW (or other developers like NetEase).

At least with Tokon, that can very easily be written off by Sony as another live-service bust. But yeah, this is mostly performative.

The part about only needing 1 character always felt like a starting point, especially for the casual player. The endgame is obviously to learn all 4, but the game doesn't force you to learn every character immediately like most tag fighters do. It's more of a gradual escalation towards mastery.

That’s the sad part, the game literally wouldn’t exist without Sony. They were the ones who pitched the idea to Marvel Games & hired ASW to make it, so it’s basically the equivalent of a faulty foundation that you can’t swap out without destroying the entire house. 😭

And considering that development for Tōkon started around 2020 to 2021 (at the height of Sony’s planning for their live service initiative), even if they negotiated the deal to include ASW after 2023, the first few years of DLC would be planned with the restriction in mind.

As far as we know, ArcSys legally can’t go wild with the X-Men. Insomniac has exclusive X-Men game rights through 2035, to the point where any dev outside of them can’t exceed 40% of their Marvel rosters consisting of restricted X-Men characters. And as of 2023, no exception was listed for ASW.

I wish they chose Robbie, but I guess Johnny makes sense.
