AI is so overfunded there's >$1 trillion in circular deals, the capital is used to manufacture revenue. Nuclear energy is a proven loser, no real breakthroughs in decades and the LCOE keeps going up. This is a smash-and-grab, a couple oligarchs get the money while the rest of us get cancer.

1. The new Trump / Kratsios plan for US science appears explicitly designed to destroy US universities. Diverting money to tech donors is probably just a bonus. Gift link.

Pretty cool how Trump has already baked corruption into the Federal Reserve. There's no policy reason why you'd want the Fed to keep everybody on their toes, but it unsettles swap markets and so makes having insider information far more lucrative.

I've mentioned this before, but one reason Navarro, a talentless hack and liar, hates the Canadians is because they are extremely skilled and technically orientated trade negotiators and he keeps getting outplayed by them in any actual detail-orientated agreement.

Aaron Rupar

Peter Navarro claims that Canadian officials are "some of the most dishonest people I've ever met. They stab you in the back ... they're screwing us"

We don't talk enough about The Lost Rubbish of Alexandria. Demetrius's 30 tiresome books on 60 lines from Homer. Didymus' made-up gossip about dead poets. ("Ought to be unlearned," wrote Seneca.) Nicander's remedies that did more harm than good. Lynceus' guide to annoying fishmongers. Mid or worse.

it's stuff like that that makes me really worry about the continuity of culture in a time of decreasing literacy and devaluation of knowledge and attribution. but on the other hand, i've also seen the scholarly suggestion somewhere that the lost six might have been kind of mid

Part of what's bizarre about this situation is how many small-and-mid-sized businesses despise it too. If you're not big enough to dump health insurance on a legal department and find creepy cost arbitrage wins, then it's basically one big paperwork nightmare and persistent large monthly expense.

the reason we dont have medicare for all is bc corporations need employer based healthcare to keep you chained to your desk in a job you hate that doesnt pay you what youre worth

TSLA reports earnings today, so I asked several AI models to evaluate it as an investment. GPT Sol: looks butt Kimi K3: ass Fable: ce n'est pas un investissement, c'est un derrière Grok: (((They))) have always been conspiring against Elon Musk, a singular genius of our time. [Word Count: 14]

this comparison leaves out a key point: the Edsel sold roughly twice the Cybertruck's volume at a time when the overall car market was just 6m units/year instead of the current 16m units/year that makes the Cybertruck the much, much bigger flop, hands down

Agreed, and it's so deeply wired that right-wingers are incapable of understanding culture outside of narrow political utility/grievance. They literally can't perceive The Odyssey, or Sinners, or Bad Bunny at half-time as artistic works, they graft their malicious politics onto it and they're done.

Denny Carter

I think these guys look for cultural properties that can be used to exclude the Other. They don’t necessarily like the Odyssey - or know anything about it - but they view it as a weapon to wield against their various perceived enemies.

The Odyssey is a nice example of the problem with every effort to "understand" Trumpers. There's nothing to "understand" here: this man has no idea what happens in Homer's epic, he's an arrogant dimwit with a made-up version in his head that he uses as an excuse to be weird and racist. That's it.

lastpositivist

Matt Walsh complains that Nolan brought his obsession with nonlinear story telling to the Odyssey, undercutting the original's narrative. The defenders of western civilisation, folks.
