Oh it’s surprisingly tricky to do that well, things like sometimes fiddling it so the player gets a tiny bit of “Wile E Coyote allowance” to be able to jump just after going off the end of a platform so it doesn’t feel like you’ve unexpectedly slipped off the edge

There’s an awkward middle ground with simulation where it can persistently end up spongy or twitchy, so you have to either plod on with lots more code or start from scratch & find the shortcuts

Today I coded a thing that just didn’t work out, it’s ‘correct’ but feels completely wrong & I don’t think tuning will save it, so tomorrow I’m doing it again but with less realism
