It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.

I fear making their circumstances worse just punishes the good people who live among them. I doubt it'll change the mind of anyone whose mind needs changing; if anything, it confirms their narrative (keeping in mind that the media will cover this happening to red states as an historic scandal).

This is one of those places where conscience itself creates asymmetry, because at the end of the day, our side isn't going to abandon people in red states, nor would I want it to. And the leaders of red states, unfortunately, are well aware.
