One of the things @modacitylife.com talks about in this pod is the benefits *for children* of being able to build a spatial map in their heads by moving through space on a bike, rather than than just: get in a car, see a blur in the windshield, get out in different place.

The many social and psychological benefits of low-car citiesA few years ago, Melissa and Chris Bruntlett and their two children moved from Vancouver, Canada, to Delft, a small city in the Netherlands where 80% of journeys are taken by foot, bicycle, or public ...www.volts.wtfWilliam B. Fuckley

I am running (or walking/cycling tbf) chauvinist for this reason: i will in some sense know your neighborhood better than you with a year of doing this than you will after a decade of going everywhere by car.

“No serious epidemiologist would reason in this way, @candiceodgers.bsky.social said. Both Gray & Haidt tended to downplay other obvious factors, such as the severe adult-MH crisis that unfolded during the same years.‘Caregiver mental health is by far the strongest predictor of childhood MH’.”🧪🛟

👇🎯💯 Again, as I have been yelling at the clouds for years, there are <only two solutions> here, & no one wants to talk about either one. Which is why I, & perhaps you also, remain so deeply concerned about the tenuous future of 🇺🇸 democracy.

Kevin Elliott

I know we're all understandably focused on getting from now to inauguration day without a successful Trump coup, but it's actually also really important to think about what we're gonna do about having a two party system where is one is anti-democracy. We either go multiparty (my pref) or fix the GOP

The falling away of the feigning of decency is one of the most dramatic changes in American elite culture in the last decade. It's ubiquitous, and explains so much of our collapse, but happily it's not universal.

Gwen Snyder is uncivil

I don't think these times have been a solvent for decency at all. This has been a precipitation process. It has made decent people coalesce & show themselves. We're also seeing how many people had just been superficially feigning decency, because that used to be a social/professional expectation.

So military troops under the direct control of Trump and Hegseth will be on the streets of our nation’s capital for the rest of Trump’s term. The rationale—they’re here to help with a crime emergency—is laughable. But of course the real reason is ominous. cbs4local.com/news/nation-...
