through sheer ubiquity a blockbuster becomes a unit of language & reference & legibility -- something The Odyssey itself has been for millennia -- & I think it's really good for that enormous referential power to be contested & challenged & engaged by those who've made a special study of it
You don't actually have to be faithful to the source material. Like, ever. The source material can be turned and twisted and you can see how light reflects off it and bounces if you do this or that, and that gives us a better, richer, more lively understanding of the source material.
