Finally, their note about accepting/rejecting changes is worrisome because it presumes the Gen AI app offered the totality of possible revisions, ignoring that a human editor would likely suggest other revisions.

Also, "organization" isn't just functional - it's key to the argument you're making. You change the order and/or structure and you change your argument. Giving that task over the Gen AI is asking it to make structural changes to your thinking.

As an freelance editor, that third bullet reads as ... nonsensical. There is no way a LLM/Gen AI model can learn an "author's voice." More to the point, an author's voice - even in academic writing - is critical to understanding their POV and contribution to the scholarship.

It's always such a special icky feeling when you know some of the unkindest people are having the best day.

Yesterday I was reading an academic book and learned that more than 500 children died in automobile accidents in New York City in 1914 alone, most after being struck by cars. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I tried to verify the number and found this poster from 1917.

It's really not the most important thing here but ... "A rural corner of upstate New York"? That reads like it's between Plattsburg and Malone! The town is due south of Buffalo, practically in PA!

It's a popular phrase but there isn't really an "industrial model" for schools. There's really no meaningful relationship to speak of between the history of American schools and industry.
