@bcmerchant.bsky.social probably wrote the most important book to repopularize the and recontextualize the Luddite movement. @jathansadowski.com takes it further with frameworks and analysis on the systems that produced the world we live in: tech and capital, and actions on how we can dismantle them

“Trump has rejected disaster aid for Democratic-run states at the highest rate in the 47-year history of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.” Right now people in blue states are basically paying federal taxes as if they’re colonized territories of red states. www.politico.com/news/2026/03...
I have a new article where I outline a materialist analysis of the machine learning value chain via three interrelated concepts that are all key for understanding this political economy: innovation realism, cheap data, and the perpetual value machine. Preprint here: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

NEW: @katemac.bsky.social & I: "Heat waves tend to attract less attention than the charismatic megafauna of climate disasters—floods, storms, wildfires—in part because they cause less property damage & thus less obviously financially costly" phenomenalworld.org/analysis/glo... Graphic @TheEconomist
re-upping because @edwardongwesojr.com said more crisply (to @jathansadowski.com on TMK) > My growing fear is actually the bubble is not going to burst... equity stakes might be a way [to] manage... a bail out, makes [AI co's] systemically important institutions that are treated as too big to fail.
state power already props up this project called AI. in the us and uk, politicians work around the clock to make sure that everything from permitting for datacenters to copyright/intellectual property regimes twist and bend to make a nurturing environment for AI.
Since idea of everyday joes sharing in AI profits is in news now, I thought I'd share this thoughtful, well-informed and at-times hilarious analysis of OpenAI's 'industrial' policy approach from @edwardongwesojr.com and @jathansadowski.com which pokes all the holes. As usual I learned and laughed.
"Everything and everything, material and immaterial, is a security" truly is the terminus of capitalism.
Jathan SadowskiI wrote about Kalshi, prediction markets, and the vision of total financialization by turning every opinion into a tradable assets www.fastcompany.com/91457404/kal...
Finally read @jathansadowski.com's book The Mechanic and the Luddite. A both rigorous and admirably accessible exposé of technological capitalism's bullshit. Lots of valuable insights for games folk (and everyone else). www.ucpress.edu/books/the-me...
Prediction markets are one of the many ways society is crumbling under the pressure to financialize everything — which crypto and NFTs were part of. @jathansadowski.com joined @parismarx.com to dig into how tech companies are harming us to maximize profit. Full ep: techwontsave.us/episode/329_...
@jathansadowski.com had a good piece about this Tinkerbell economy futurism.com/ai-tinkerbell
Prediction markets as a social cancer. I was happy to have @jathansadowski.com back on the show to discuss everything that’s wrong with them and why we need to get serious about outlawing them again.
Tech Won’t Save UsPolymarket and Kalshi seem to be everywhere, but what are prediction markets doing to society? This week @jathansadowski.com joins @parismarx.com to dig into the ideological goal to financialize everything and the many harms that arise from that model. Full ep: techwontsave.us/episode/329_...

i'm so embarrassed that i'm just now listening to the TMK episode about anti-data center organizing (and about eco-modernism) but it's a really good episode so far overcast.fm/+AAg6yFF4Vp4
