I think this is actually the dominant (though usually unstated) view of the self-professed "revolutionary" wing of DSA. They aren't pursuing a strategic alternative to the DSA electoral project, and at some level recognize that whatever power they have comes from a project they claim to oppose.

This was more or less the disastrous approach Socialist Alternative took to both Bernie campaigns. It led to them contributing little and gaining less from the Bernie movement and ultimately suffering a number of near fatal splits. Are we trying to feel good about ourselves or change the world?

The entire proposal for an org-wide debate and then a poll is meant to surface concerns and then allow for a decision with a lot of legitimacy. The divide is between SMC, GW and R&R wanting that to be a possible outcome and everyone else wanting to muddy the waters so no decision can be legitimate.

Respectfully, this is just "both sides" posturing from a group that agrees with GW and SMC on the question. Their amendments tweaked the poll (+ had support from SMC and GW) and the ratification by convention part is basically symbolic - this whole process was already ratified by convention.

Talk of a DSA split is overhyped, but we do need ways of reducing factionalism. Cross-caucus bodies that negotiate btw factions are key to that. This blowup is because RS, MUG and B&R all chose to subvert the 2028 committee that came out of convention instead of engaging in a good faith process.
