Were we in a neutral political environment, I would probably agree that socialist candidates could be general election liabilities. But your average Democratic voter wants Republican blood and that’s all you need in states like Wisconsin and Michigan in a blue wave year.

I’m genuinely impressed by the arrogance and lack of humility from centrists who are so confident they know how elections will play out with progressives on the ballot. You might be right! But you very well could be wrong and you will look like idiots.

Republicans have also spent decades calling everyone left of Hitler a socialist, I just do not think this is the political environment where screaming about scary socialists is going to be effective

I’ve said before that it’s probably inevitable the left will blow a race at some point but most of the centrist dooming about so-called unelectable candidates fundamentally comes from a refusal to believe that previously fringe positions are now majority positions.

I still think left-wing Dems like Hong and AES will be treated as Generic Dems by voters in November given how how much people hate Trump. I think Dem voters would vote for Stalin in a general election and old tweets aren’t going to matter against far-right extremists.

Socialists deserve credit of course — we have newfound message discipline and great organizing skills — but we would not be here without the sheer incompetence of the Democratic Party. Cuomo, whatever the hell Wisconsin Dems are doing — they are gifting us victories on a platter.

The freakout over Zohran’s grocery stores is hilarious. It’s probably my least favorite Zohran policy just because I’m not convinced they are necessary but we’re talking literally one store per borough. It’s a worthwhile experiment and I promise you all that it will be fine.

I do think New York City is the perfect place to test what the ceiling is on how much you can tax rich people without negative effects. There’s no other city that provides the lifestyle rich New Yorkers want and they are almost certainly willing to pay a huge premium to maintain that.

‪I think there are valid concerns about competing grocery stores but the bodega concerns feel silly to me. ‬ ‪I go to a bodega for a hero/sandwich and to get a few items I need quickly. ‬ ‪The existence of cheaper grocery stores nearby doesn’t change that behavior. ‬
