This seems to be accurate but it surprises me because Trump is so willing to engage in laughable lies that I don't fully understand why just lying about the outcome isn't enough for him here. His normal MO is just to look you in the eye and say "they are weaker" and not care if you know he's lying.

The weird thing to me is that surrendering and lying that you won is a strategy that works for him generally. I think it would have worked for him here too, because people would have forgotten about it soon enough. He just lacks the patience to ignore the critics for a month.
