That’s all to say, maybe don’t be surprised when people out there are a bit less attentive to, or concerned about, the labels we use than we are.

Democratic socialist this, liberal that, conservative this… Yes, some of us organize our beliefs around these labels. Yes, some of these labels can be made scary by political elites. But, despite v old arguments on this topic, we often project onto others our own sophisticated thoughts abt this.

I have little to add to the chat, but I will say this: Those of us who spend a lot of time talking about politics overestimate how much other people care about, or are even familiar with, the labels we use to describe, denigrate, or celebrate candidates. Sometimes we’re high on our own supply.

I came across this drawing I did five years ago. Very little in my house has changed since then.

One of the things I learn again and again being an artist in creative spaces is that it isn't about who has the best *ideas* or *ability*, it's all about who actually is able to pull through and make the thing. Even if someone else *could* make it better. Even if someone else had the *idea* first. 🧵
