Repairs were then carried out to halt the further decay of this medieval structure and our founder, Ivor Bulmer-Thomas, took particular delight in the reintroduction of a stone altar in 1985. 8/10

Having been without a roof for almost a century, by the 1970s, exposure to the elements had made this medieval structure rather dangerous, with large cracks in the tower and dislodged masonry throughout. 6/10 📷 St Andrew’s during the 1970s

The grand medieval rood screen went to furnish a private chapel at Bowringsleigh House at West Alvington and the 15th-century carved pews ended up inside the chapel of Powderham Castle. 5/10 📷 Dispersed interior fittings

In 1869, a replacement church had been built at Galmpton and, in the following decades, St Andrew’s was deliberately unroofed and its fittings dispersed. 4/10 📷 Galmpton church

However, by the mid-19th century, the church had come to be in a rather poor condition and, after a narrow escape with a blown-in window pane, the Vicar F. R. Hole decided to close St Andrew’s and build his congregation a new church. 3/10

This is the ruined church of St Andrew’s, South Huish in Devon. A grand medieval structure, the church was largely built between the 13th and 15th centuries. 2/10

Despite falling into ruin in the 19th century, and almost being demolished in the 20th century, this medieval church still hosts a service every year. 1/10

Our last match funding campaign in 2024 helped us rescue four churches: St Deiniol’s, Worthenbury; St Twrog’s, Bodwrog; St Andrew’s, South Runcton; and St Doged’s, Llanddoged. With your help, St Helen’s and St Tyfi’s will be next. 7/9

The combined repair bill for these two churches will be in excess of £1 million. Thus, we are delighted that this year, a generous donor has agreed to make your support go twice as far, matching every pound you give, pound for pound, up to £500,000. 6/9

Thus, we hope to raise the money necessary to be able to restore St Tyfi’s, Llandyfeisant, along with St Helen’s, Biscathorpe in Lincolnshire, through our ‘A Victorian Revival’ match funding campaign. 5/9

Taking St Tyfi’s, Llandyfeisant into our ownership, we want to repair the church and make it safe for people to use and enjoy for decades to come. However, if we undertake all the necessary repairs, we would be looking at a bill somewhere in the region of £650,000. 4/9

The church closed for regular worship in 1961 and, for some years now, St Tyfi’s has been supported by an indefatigable group of four local men. Inside, the colourful bunting strung from all the wall-plates has become a symbol of this church’s determination to keep going. 3/9

Situated in a small sylvan sanctuary in Dinefwr, Carmarthenshire, St Tyfi's is a medieval foundation that was almost entirely rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century. 2/9

St Tyfi's church, Llandyfeisant closed for regular worship in 1961 and now it is officially designated as ‘At Risk’, suffering from severe decay of the roof timbers, invasive vegetation and defective drainage. 1/9
