Officially declared redundant in 1971, demolition was a real prospect for St Andrew’s church. However, thankfully, the ruins were transferred into our ownership in 1976. 7/10 📷 St Andrew’s during the 1970s

Repairs were then carried out to halt the further decay of this medieval structure and our founder, Ivor Bulmer-Thomas, took particular delight in the reintroduction of a stone altar in 1985. 8/10

Thereby, giving a focus to the annual open air service, which has been held in the church every August since the repairs were complete, re-establishing a tradition which had ceased only in 1933. 9/10
