So, no dog-kicking, and no interaction between Argos and the suitors at all. The blame for the dog's condition is put explicitly on the enslaved people of the household not doing their work because of the absence of the slaveholder.

The closest to abuse of Argos we hear is in the description Eumaeus gives, and he just explains that without Odysseus around, the "careless women" don't tend the dog; it ends with an aphorism about slaves needing masters to direct them, because people lose half their "excellence" when made slaves.

Okay, so in book 17 when Odysseus comes to his palace, Melantheus the goatherd kicks Odysseus (disguised as a beggar); Argos appears around line 290, and we get some backstory & discussion of him, while he reacts to Odysseus; Argos then promptly dies. No kicking.

Wait, like dog kicking in the Greek epic itself? I don't think that's in the transmitted text, though I can double check later today.
