Only read about a third of the original and haven't seen the film but from what I've heard isn't Nolan's Odyssey basically just like Jackson's LOTR: puts the beloved thing on the screen to give fans a spectacular canonical film adaptation, maybe messing with the end a bit and removing Tom Bombadil
Read Emily Wilson's incisive and somewhat uncharitable review of The Odyssey. Made me think and reevaluate even if I don't necessarily agree with all of it. But it made me gain a new perspective on something: The world is better with Nolan's movie AND Wilson's review in it than one or the other.
