Again. Wilson's "takedown" was based on the tired premise that if she didn't enjoy the experience of the work, that the reason must involve a moral failure on the part of that work. Weird that Oates is weighing in, but maybe she saw people who knew better championing Wilson's article.

There are still many professors out there who teach "book good, film bad" adaptation courses, and/or that measure the quality of an adaptation by its fidelity to the source material (with moral undercurrents, to boot). It's such an anti-intellectual approach to cinema, and yet here we are.
