Back in 2021, I wrote that genital exams on children were the next step in the bans on trans athletes & now here we are. Here’s that piece:
This November, voters in Washington State will weigh in on IL26-638, a ballot measure requiring that girls who want to play sports in K–12 schools undergo sex-verification tests such as genital exams.
I hope Minnesotans are ready for the level of anti-trans sports ads we’re going to be swimming in this fall. It wasn’t an accident that Riley Gaines flew in *here* to hang with Senate candidate Michelle Tafoya for the Lynx game. Let’s show up for inclusion on the court and at the ballot box.
Here’s the moment when one of my PhD student’s (Joey Schafer) research on Bluesky influencers intersects with my other PhD students’ (Nina Lutz and Adiza Awwal) research on visual representation (and propaganda) within WNBA discourse. Honestly didn’t see this coming…
Aaron RuparSophie Cunningham is getting booed every time she touches the ball here in Minneapolis
100% supportive of this sentiment. The WNBA needs a crash course in online information dynamics and media manipulation. ASAP. Old school crisis response plans are going to fail spectacularly.
Ben CollinsA good commissioner steps in now before every WNBA game becomes a rightwing performance space, like school board meetings were during peak CRT. You just have to throw the hammer down on this. Do not give them an inch.
In the W, offense is more dynamic than ever. Players have greater freedom of movement. And against a historic offense in a historic scoring season league-wide, the Lynx showed they can beat the Fever at their own game. For @stribsports.startribune.com www.startribune.com/minnesota-ly...
Hey the Indiana Fever are in 5th place just like Riley! Way to keep that loser energy going!

We already have a shitty, exclusionary place in sports: it's called men's sports. They built it like that on purpose. Let them own it and figure that out for themselves. Women's sports were built in opposition to that structure, built for inclusion. The WNBA has represented the best of that.
I get not wanting to talk about Cunningham herself, not wanting to give air to her bullshit. But she's still talking and outlets are still printing it and people will still show up in support of her anti-trans bigotry. We have to counter it with vocal support of the trans community. We have to.
This is why the only answer here is for leagues, teams, coaches, and players who actually care about their teammates and fans to loudly shout down this hate. She's gonna keep talking. Her shithead followers are going to keep showing up. They should be made to feel unwelcome. They are not welcome.
Hey Minnesota won and the nudification technology ban will go into effect tomorrow at 12:00AM!
"Last year, the Trump administration delayed a $10 million grant that was supposed to help Minnesota thin out about 4,000 acres of dense, dry forest at high risk of burning... now, some of those areas are on fire." www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2026...

Kayla McBride is averaging 26.8 points per game on 73.6% true shooting in the month of July, however, her impact goes far beyond the numbers. Below, I broke down the film on high-IQ abilities of McBride + highlighted how immensely valuable she is off-ball.
