I've had a kindle since the first gen and I hate how they really are good ereaders. I tried a Nook for a while but had the "my kindle still works" experience and went right back. eInk has come a long way though! I'd read that the Boox was a tougher interface but felt a lot like a paper experience.

Good to know! I'm wary of the Kobo since they were acquired by Rakuten. I'll have to see if I can get hands on experience with a Boox before going that route though.

I will just hope the nerds of the internet figure the new format out.

phew! That still leaves me with no access to some self-pub authors I like :( but it's better than losing a couple hundred books I hadn't liberated yet.

Same. And my kindle is on its last legs so I was trying to decide between a Kobo or a Boox. And now I'll be faced with losing so many books I enjoy re-reading, because they're indie authors and I just flat out can't find them outside of Amazon. Or effectively out-of-print.

Crap! I missed my window to get all my books downloaded and converted too so I'd be able to migrate them to a new non-kindle ereader.

100%! Seriously the people I know who were preaching caution and mercy loudly in 2021 are the ones on the frontlines organizing and screaming for the opposite now. I just hope we all make it to the FO portion of this.

I genuinely think it can be gorgeous. In small touches that suit the architecture and history or just small artistic touches. That though is tacky af. Not as bad as the oval office spray paint temu shit though.

This one hurts, because gilding is a dying trade and an art we're probably going to lose in the future and I want to see it stay alive because it's fascinating. But not like that. Dear dog not like that. And not with millions of my tax dollars. Gilded items also don't belong outside.

Eh, there was new coverage of the gilders doing the work with photos and video. I believe it. A waste of money and destruction of US property. But there were actual gilders gilding. The Guilders' Studio in MD did the work I believe.
