How important are levels in a ttrpg? I've always felt that instead of acting as a treat of progression, it felt like being gated off from stuff that sounds fun. I don't particularly care about getting a +1 to a stat because the nature of RNG exists. But then what about progression? 1/?

Bouncing off this, in a different life, I went to a games convention as a rep for a now defunct blog. In it was a session with the CEO from CCP, the guys who made EVE Online. He detailed a giant map in their version of space and how real-world enmity had translated in to online all-out warfare.

What's the deal with games needing monsters you can kill with no remorse? I keep seeing TTRPGs touting this in their marketing ... There was Obojima, a while back; now Deathbringer with its pig-faced orcs. I genuinely don't get this! What desire is being served here---and whose? 1/

The U.S. didn't "hate" anime in the 90s. People these days tend to conflate (or confuse) "broad teasing of foreign cultures and nerd hobbies" for "hatred." As for the nerds and bullies that may have gotten weird or douchey about it...I mean, what do you expect? That's what nerds and bullies do.

Instead of this, I'd like to see a sci fi ttrpg covered... like traveller where you get a montage of what seems to be the main character's life path until they die unceremoniously to the actual main character's intro

The challenge is not to run a good thing into the ground. Avatar was a great kids show with great writing and only minor issues with pacing. Everything else out of the IP has just been the creators trying to milk a dead cow
