Damn. I just finally watched this (maybe for the second time, edibles are a hell of a thing 😂) it's a really good movie. It's the epitomy of a D&D campaign complete with asspulls and random shit. I loved it and want more of it. Please 🙏 green light a sequel or 6

the success of Masters of the Universe shows that the market is there for the D&D sequel, or something similar.

T

Seriously, how was this not a hit? Just thoroughly entertaining.

Ответ для trashpandamario

The release windows mostly: Mario Brothers and John Wick 4 out and huge at the same time, so kids saw the first, adults the second, despite this being a perfect all ages romp on the level of the first Pirates of the Caribbean or The Mummy

Ответ для Drew T

I didn’t see “masters univ” this summer… but trailer/promotion seemed they were trying to be like “honor among”. I say that complimentary too

What a bummer, it was really good!

The fact this movie didn't do too well is a crime.

Paramount, Let Them make That Sequel, You Bums!

Ответ для Sebastian Fawkes

We gotta bully them like we did with Coyote vs Acme

gaw damit 😭

Okay but alternative plan: we get it soon

Boo!! Paramount sucks!!

Okay well if I win powerball tonight

We can get 20 different Big Bang Theory spin offs but unfortunately the odds of more Dungeons & Dragons, a movie that was quite entertaining, seem slim.

Ответ для Mark Azali

Unfortunately, it didn't do well at the box office. It was surprisingly good.

The budget was $150 million. It made $200 million. The break even point was around $375 million. That’s a box office flop.

Ответ для Big Bovy 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

And John Wick 4. So despite being a classic family/all ages pleaser, moviegoers were mostly splitting their time/$$$ between those two and it got crowded out

Ответ для cassiusmclay

I hadn't seen it and had only vague "oh, it's bad" rumors to go off from. Neighbor sat me down a while back to watch it and omg it was so FUN!!!

Ответ для Mark Azali

That TV show is awful. D&D: Honor Among Thieves was a delight!

RIP Jarnathan

I want a sequel so bad!

Ответ для Brandon

Write one.

you masterfully picked the single thing about the sequel that already happened

Comments like this is why you gotta put your phone down and listen to whats happening at the table

Hey I have a really good idea for a record breaking Kickstarter

A sequel I actually want so of course. 😐

Loved the movie, was really excited to see a sequel

Was a good movie.

I want the sequel to be the same cast but all new characters in true TTRPG style, just a series of one shots keeping the actors consistent

This! This!

Ответ для Paul

So, like the show Miracle Workers

I loved D&D: HAT. I want more of that so bad. ;n;

You don’t make sequels to movies that lose this much money

Ответ для Tyler_The_Wise

It's still making money from streaming and such, though.

Ответ для Tyler_The_Wise

It didn'g even lose money! It made 58 millions back come on! Studio are just greedy pos

Ответ для Gudule C Troimil

It's so funny to use "lose money" to describe "not making as much money as it could have".

Ответ для Local Oaf

You have to account for marketing, which studios rarely report the cost of (public production costs are often just guesses too) It probably eventually broke even with streaming, but the real break even figure was likely closer to 300 million, so it didn’t provide a return on investment

Ответ для Drew T

I still don’t really understand this reasoning from the studio - it’s done pretty well on the long tail with lots of people seeing and loving it. You don’t start from day one with a massive franchise, you build it by gaining fans, the sequel would probably do much better.

Ответ для Drew T

In any case Studio would have wanted the movie to make like 600 millions to be a succes and that's stupid, that's just corporate greed.

Ответ для Gudule C Troimil

They did a great movie, who was loved by most people seeing it, and they didn't lose money just didn't make enough for the shareholders. Sequels were produce for less sucessfull movies

Ответ для Gudule C Troimil

They lost money. Again, you can’t just look at the production budget. geeksandgamers.com/how-to-break...

Ответ для Gudule C Troimil

That’s not how Hollywoog math works The production budget is only part of the cost They also spent a fortune on advertising and other costs Movies need to make, at least, 2 times their production budget to break even

Ответ для Tyler_The_Wise

And that's why Hollywood sucks ass and is just a greedy empire sucking on the passionate people traped in it.

Ответ для Gudule C Troimil

No, you just don’t know the math of making movies The production budget is not the full cost of making a movie and the box office revenue is not net revenue for the movie studio It’s okay. You can learn how this works. nofilmschool.com/ben-affleck-...

Why Ben Affleck Says a $25 Million Movie Needs a $100 Million Box Office Just to Break EvenThe price of making movies has gotten very expensive.nofilmschool.com
Ответ для Tyler_The_Wise

Still that's why Hollywood model suck ass. You know Hollywood is not the sole entity making movies around the world, right? That's their is a lot more production system in other countries, right?

So we have to put on the best god damn talent show this country has ever seen to fund this film?!?

I've never really understood why anyone would want to watch a movie about D&D

pretty sure his name is Jarnathan

Ответ для Rajan Narang

JAAAHHRRRNATHAN!!

Ответ для JoJoFunBun

I loved the note of exasperation in her delivery of this line, like it would be Typical Jarnathan for this to happen to him.

Ответ для Eóin Cunningham

Yessss!!! We've all know a Jarnathan. Thinking of you, Houston firefighter, who axed down the wrong door in the wrong building.

Ответ для JoJoFunBun

Okay, wrong door I get, but wrong building?

Ответ для Jesper Haglund

We lived in an apt that was in one of two identical, adjacent buildings. We had a smol electrical fire and I think this firefighter somehow got separated and confused and ran into the wrong building completely oblivious to the absence of the rest of his crew.

Ответ для JoJoFunBun

There we were in our tiny apt and with a bunch of giant dudes in fire gear when this lone dude comes running up the stairs with his AX and was like, "Y'all left me behind. I knocked down the wrong door!" I swear there was a collective sigh and a chorus of, "Again??"

Considering its paramount their probably throw it out because it doesn’t aline with their right wing views

Just like real D&D.

the problem with the first one is that it came out before Baldur's Gate III. the movie would have absolutely made more money if it came out after BG3, the same as the underperforming MTG/Baldur's Gate set. a sequel would probably be more successful, given how much stronger the D&D IP is now

Ответ для Dial M for Monkeybone

I mean it still got out during the blow out of actual plays on youtube, Dimensions 20 was already selling out the Madison Square Garden, and BG3 was already in EA at the time. The problem is the greed of the exec'

Ответ для Gudule C Troimil

The movie cost 150 million and earn 208 million, it pay for itself and even make 58 more millions, it's not a flop except for the exec' who wanted to, I don't know, quadruple the gain or some shit. Like everytime the problem is greed in late stage capitalism

Ответ для Gudule C Troimil

Generally the production budget again is spent on marketing, so a 150 million movie needs to make 300 million to break even. It almost certainly managed to do that on home media/streaming, but that failure at the box office matters.

Ответ для Wonggifs IV: The Voyage Wong

It only matter for a bunch a greedy exec' that prefere to bury movies for tax reason. This is pur greed stop defending it.

Ответ для Gudule C Troimil

Nah like literally this is a thing. Not defending anything. Movies need to make twice their budget back to be considered box offfice successes. Look it up. I'm sure the execs are greedy don't get me wrong, but this is just a fact.

Ответ для Wonggifs IV: The Voyage Wong

I know but like you says they definitivly recuperate the cost of that with streaming and VODs. The box office obsession is just made up by exec that want more money quickly. It's a problem on how Hollywood work and this need to change on the grand scale of it

Ответ для Gudule C Troimil

you seem to know some d&d specifics. Im just a generic nerd… i loved the movie. Friends into D&D liked it… those who didn’t still went to see it. I guess my point is the people who made the movie threaded the needle close enough to be worth another go at it. There was an audience for this

Ответ для Dial M for Monkeybone

But BG3's success is what scaring me now. They will 100% want to include Astarion and Shadowheart in the movie now.

Hasbro executives have no idea how to run a company. They canceled the D&D movie sequel because the first movie wasn't the biggest release ever. They are canceling multiple video game projects because they are expecting only modest returns. They have no idea how to grow or even maintain a franchise.

Ответ для Reddburg

Addendum: they know how to run a company that makes value for private equity firms that they can then sell off for more than they bought it

Ответ для Reddburg

There's not going to be a Baldur's Gate 3 DLC because the heads don't like how the game made money for Larian instead of just them.

In other words, because Hasbro executives are the absolute highest caliber of complete idiocy.

Ответ для John Ball

the licence changes they announced two weeks before the film came put didn't help
