Think how much dark money corruption and climate denial fraud Big Oil can get up to with this half-trillion-dollar windfall (from you, btw). www.woodmac.com/press-releas...

In June 1966, scientist James Lovelock warned Shell in a confidential memo of “the almost certain fact that the climate is worsening and the probability that the combustion of fuel is responsible.” Four years later, "Shell would become a founding member of the denialist Global Climate Coalition." 😑
You guys aren't going to believe this, but ... it turns out the oil & gas industry knew that they were poisoning people (in this case, with methane) for years, and they hid it & did nothing to mitigate the harm. No, really, it's true! Incredible investigative work here from @rebleber.bsky.social:
As Shell faces a landmark climate lawsuit, "confidential" documents from the 1960s show British scientist James Lovelock warning executives of the risks of burning fossil fuels. See his June 1966 memo published in full for the first time with my latest for @desmog.com
"Big Oil is in panic mode." They're afraid of accountability because they know just how much damage they've caused.
The people of Boulder deserve their day in court to put Exxon and Suncor on trial for their climate deception. They knew. They lied. They need to pay.
"Advanced" recycling is a fraud perpetuated by Big Oil and the plastics industry to justify extracting more fossil fuels. CCI's report, "The Fraud of Advanced Recycling," unpacks the industry's most common claims about "advanced" recycling and shows how each is misleading or outright false. 👇
Big Oil continues to deceptively market "advanced" recycling as a solution to the plastic pollution crisis. In reality, the process "releases toxic chemicals into the atmosphere," and the handful of plants still in operation are "barely making a dent in the amount of plastic that's discarded." 😑
Findings from the @climateintegrity.org show that gas companies have known their impact for decades. Natural gas being touted as the 'climate solution' is a large part of the industry's success. See the full report below. climateintegrity.org/projects/nat...
As "extreme weather disasters become more frequent and severe, Hawaiʻi’s working families and taxpayers are absorbing these costs," wrote Hawaiʻi State Sen. Jarrett Keohokalole for @civilbeat.bsky.social. “Climate change didn’t happen by accident, and not everyone shares equal blame."
About half of Americans think natural gas—a methane-based, planet-warming fuel—is a “clean” energy source, according to a recent poll. And a long-running fossil fuel industry marketing campaign might be to blame.
Must read: @markgongloff.bsky.social explains why our investigation exposing how Big Oil & Gas pushed the fraud of "clean" natural gas "is more relevant than ever as lawsuits proliferate." “This is the most consequential deception campaign in the history of mankind,” CCI's Richard Wiles said.

The “clean natural gas” label is a myth. Great to see this Mother Jones article by @hurwitz.bsky.social summarizing the key findings of our report into The Fraud of "Clean" Natural Gas for @climateintegrity.org
Mother JonesA new report exposes what's behind the "clean" gas lie
Why do we call fossil gas "natural" gas? A new report from @climateintegrity.org “shines a light on a decades-long public relations campaign by oil and gas companies to re-brand natural gas as ‘clean energy’” after internal company research found that methane emissions was fueling climate change.
"This image of gas as clean is a fraud at least 50 years in the making." I'm a few days late to this but this work by @rebleber.bsky.social and @rebeccajohn.bsky.social on the decades-long effort to make everyone think a fossil fuel is something else entirely really is excellent:
climateintegrity.orgNatural gas is not the climate-friendly fuel the oil and gas industry has made it out to be. Read CCI's latest report on how the fraud of "clean" natural gas helped propel the rapid expansion of gas infrastructure over the last two decades. 👇
