The lies of the oil & gas industry have shaped most of the environmental problems we have now. In the 19th Century, natural gas was a miracle. It's only recently that its real health effects have been proven and publicized.

Although certainly not clean is it cleaner? isn't that the point? Carbon based energy will not disappear or be replaced overnight. As part of a transition to greener and renewable energy wouldn't NG be the lesser of the evils? Just asking.

There are a few studies that point to it being similar to coal in terms of planet warming. Fewer particulates, and less mercury in the air, etc. than coal. But methane systems are very leaky, and methane has a much larger warming impact per unit than plain CO2.

The methane industry likes to call it "bridge fuel" and lobby hard against the energy transition. Same old song and dance to keep making money.

Nothing should ls slow down the transition but that transition even under the most optimistic scenarios will take time. I really don't care what the NG industry says but if you assume that some carbon based energy will be required for some period of time is NG better than oil and/or coal?

Unclear from what I've read. And it's not really important I think. All fossil fuels are harmful in different ways. Taking the time and money to transition to methane first, instead of direct to renewables is the pitch the industry is making, and that doesn't make sense environmentally.

What is the alternative? Energy is needed today and for the foreseeable future? Can you just flip a snitch and instantaneously fossil fuel will be gone and renewables will take their place? Rhetorical of course because like it or not the transition will take time. That is jus a fact.

The second paragraph has it backwards. Since methane is a far worse greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, turning methane into carbon dioxide by burning it is actually a net improvement. Also methane being the simplest of hydrocarbons it burns more efficiently. Check out renewable natural gas #rng
