Amazon went and killed their subscription program in late 2023 and wouldn't share subscriber email addresses with us. Otherwise, we would have told you. :)

And by team, we mean the entire staff and all the artists, authors, translators, etc. No one is left behind.

I don't think that was a concern. You can't sue someone for who they sell a book to. It's a purchase and what the buyer does with it is on them. It's not like they were giving our books away.

That's the thing, without the courts/govt doing their part, the best we're only ever going to get the pale illusion of protection. The "AI" companies have been counting on that from day one and working to slow/interfere with any progress ever since.

Ultimately, they are the ones that most deserve our rage. God forbid they actually do something.

I don't think that small presses and indies are being hit hardest. I think it's a burden on all of us. Big publishers, small presses, indies, bloggers, grandma posting on Facebook, someone commenting on Reddit... all of us are being stolen from and the courts/govt aren't stopping them.

Also a Spark user, but don't remember how I heard about this. It was a while ago. It's a nice gesture on their part to even offer it. Even they acknowledge it probably won't stop them. Many are using third party services to do the dirty work and they buy from all over, including used bookstores

I think every bookseller and distributor should opt-out by default, but most of them aren't even allowing us to opt-out, so they get some points for that. It doesn't help that the parties buying books are often masking their purchases through third parties contracted to acquire the books for them.

As a former ACM member and co-author on articles in Communications of the ACM, their statement makes me angry. Have dropped a response, but it feels like they've already made a decision and are just asking to make it look like they involved us. Either way, glad I'm not a member anymore.

It's an ongoing problem for most of us. A lot of boiling frogs.

I don't mind late, but two trains back-to-back canceled was a bit stressful when trying to reach the airport in time for a flight. :)

My time at #Eurocon #Metropolcon is over. Thank you to the entire team that put on this fine convention and farewell to everyone I met and didn't get the chance to say goodbye to. Currently packing for my early morning flight home.

Last day of #eurocon. So much bouncing around in my head from all the interesting conversations. Need to start budgeting so I can attend again in the near future. Very glad I came here.

Having a great time here in Berlin. The convention has already provided so much to inspire and think about and there's still two more days!

Ok. Finally in the air. Now it's time to read slush. Rejections dropping over the Atlantic. Next stop Berlin.
