protect us, meaning that folks shouldn't have to pay to copyright the work. That failed to work this time. Companies are going to have to do more to protect their authors. Ingram should be doing more too.
That's the thing, without the courts/govt doing their part, the best we're only ever going to get the pale illusion of protection. The "AI" companies have been counting on that from day one and working to slow/interfere with any progress ever since.
