We have a few holdouts here in my west of Ireland hometown -- one who got a card reader says trade stopped declining. Others might be kidding themselves and another might have got it too late as I didn't get anything from them a few times thinking they were still cash only when they had a reader.
This is what I don't get about the people who try to explain away the street car conspiracy -- they were caught by the justice system as much as of these companies ever will be and there's still disbelief??? These companies have a history of conspiring against the greater good for profit.
You're wrong -- the conviction for monopolising the supply included an oil company.
“Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you,” needs to be replaced with "just because you reject conspiracy theories, doesn't mean there's not real conspiracies"
That's like saying the rise of SUVs is somebody else's fault, not the car industry's fault. Because they also sell normal cars.
The fact is that they conspired to sell larger, less safe and more environmentally impactful vehicles. They pushed their produce lines and marketing focus to SUVs.
It's real. it's not a theory. The companies were convicted in 1949 of conspiracy to monopolize interstate commerce in the sale of buses, fuel, and supplies to the new transit company they created.
And the view that Ireland has enough places to walk is an amazing one -- our country has far fewer safe walking (or cycle) routes across our countryside than countries like the UK, France, the Netherlands, etc.
And this is not to dismiss any or all criticism of greenways. Mistakes have been made, and there's no point trying to justify those. But large roads with environmental assessments all completed have far more of a destructive impact during construction and on an ongoing basis.
