Yes, it’s a little bit like what happened with The Last Jedi (not that the two movies are comparable otherwise). The RW chuds hated it so much and for such ignorant and disingenuous reasons, that liberals and non-haters rallied around it to the point of being unwilling to hear honest criticism

Something that makes me think of Nolan as the Director for Dudes more than anything else is his fixation on IMAX. I’m not a film expert, but it seems to have forced tradeoffs in how scenes are staged and filmed, and a focus on technical achievement over creativity and art

I had the same response. People have a lot of trouble with nuance these days, if you say a negative thing about something it means you hate it completely, and I think it’s also anti-intellectualism and a lady criticising Big Movie by the Director for Men

Hmmm. I read the Emily Wilson review of Nolan's The Odyssey and not sure what the hubbub is about. Are negative reviews not allowed anymore? Some nuance of her points seems flattened in the criticisms of the review, too.

7. The film centers Odysseus's guilt over his war crimes, but never shows us the POV of his victims, and instead glorifies the perpetrator for feeling bad about himself. I found this unsatisfying ethically and worse, imaginatively, because Damon's character is given only one mood (Troubled).
