I am concerned that, as with many transit issues, the US deals with implementation challenges by avoiding them. NY's MTA has 60 electric buses (~1% of fleet) & they're failing. So it's reducing its order for more. Comparison: —London: ~33% —Paris: ~21% —Milan: ~21% —Hamburg: ~39% —Barcelona: ~20%

Wild to see US cities pursuing these huge redevelopment projects without effective transit plans. If this were a European or Asian city, 7200 future homes would mean a light rail branch at the minimum. Instead, because the US can't afford to build anything, the area might get some bus improvements.

Congress appropriated billions of dollars for new transit projects. Why is the Trump administration spending none of it? Why are even transit projects in red states going unfounded? New reporting in @nytimes.com (gift link): www.nytimes.com/2026/07/27/u...

The US House’s proposed transportation legislation—sponsored by both Republicans & Democrats—would cut transit funding massively, affecting every state & congressional district. Instead, it focuses on highway building through blank checks to state DOTs

Before we build more roads, let's take care of the ones we already have. Across the country, roads, bridges, sidewalks, and transit systems need repairs. But this bill prioritizes highway expansion instead. ‼️Congress should fix what we have first. Tell them ➡️ buff.ly/JJBoCJH

Trump administration acknowledges in court documents that it terminated billions of dollars in grants not “based on any programmatic, statutory, cost-reduction or performance-based factor”—but because they were to entities in states that voted for Harris.

US government has spent $37.5 billion in 5 months on Iran war, equivalent to amount of money it spends on housing vouchers annually. While one policy helps 5 million Americans afford decent homes, the other kills innocent bystanders, destroys essential infrastructure, & increases energy prices.

US homeownership rate is conventionally described as being ~ 65%. But that measure fails to take into account the large number of adults living in homes where *other* adults actually own the homes. People like young adults, elderly, friends. Once you account for that, the rate declines to… 53%.

just mind boggling that as we suffer through this the trump admin is paying off energy companies to kill wind farms, the US EV market has imploded because of lack of subsidies, congress wants to pass a transport bill that would reduce funds for transit, & national dems have no climate strategy

Interesting new paper from @jdbk.bsky.social, @jaredkalow.bsky.social showing that opening a new transit station in a neighborhood is associated with a 2.7% point increase in support for *later* transit ballot measures. People's support for transit investment increases when they get better transit!

DC is making good progress on its deckover of Connecticut Ave near Dupont Circle. It will improve the district, making it more walkable, with less pollution. Cities across the US were supposed to get similar improvements to reconnect communities. But GOP killed funding for these projects in 2025.

The US House is considering a transportation bill that would cut transit funding massively. We estimate that it would cut transit funds by 23% compared to the current infrastructure law. Every state would lose millions of dollars in transit formula funding. Details: www.urban.org/urban-wire/h...

Fantastic ridership for Seattle’s relatively young & still limited light rail system made possible by: —very frequent service —direct access to most important destinations —fast service thanks to mostly subway or elevated routes —coordinated planning that’s concentrated development near stops

Sound Transit confirms that it shattered its one-day ridership record on July 6 with the U.S. vs Belgium match. 309,000 riders pressed onto Link trains that day. 5.4 MILLION riders used Link during the entirety of June, easily clearing the previous monthly ridership record.

Not to rub salt on the wound but this is a tiktok post from one of the Metra board members that Brandon Johnson just re-nominated. Just pure left-NIMBYism So I am not expecting much upzoning or TOD effort from Metra anytime soon (unless it’s 100% affordable and therefore unsustainable)
