Things like seemingly harmless NYT consumption are big deals to trans people because transphobia, despite being intense and escalating these days, is an oppression often rendered invisible. Trans people are used to being abandoned by cis people, so even small abandonments have an impact.

for real tho, i hate that when trans people point out, in very measured and clear language that acting like structurally transphobic entities are neutral because they aren't like, tearing us apart in the streets to cis people, that cis people get so fucking defensive and freak out on us

What makes it even worse is that neither of these things were ever resolved and are still ongoing. It's not something in the past that happened. It's something that continues to happen every single day. Every day I see some liberal rationalizing genocide, or someone mocking masking. I'm so tired.
I think that the double whammy of COVID and genocide really affected my ability to trust people. Seeing how quick individuals were to throw the vulnerable to the wolves for selfish reasons and rationalize the mass murder of Palestinians really messed with me in a way that I still can't fully process
