tricky is way harder to control, but i think that makes it way better to me. there's a lot more satisfaction to be had in landing your moves, not only in accomplishment but how kinetic it feels. nothing comes close to getting a good wind-up on a jump, or a downhill stretch at hyperspeed. perfection

I just don't feel like its very weighty or punchy, so the experience just sorta blends together. I know people speak of a "zen" experience with 3, maybe that's it. But i want a challenge, and I want arcadey punchy gamefeel. Tricky is like the best game ever bc of it. Im going to bed im just rambling

This combined with how forgiving and loose doing ubertricks is in this game just makes my tricks feel blah when I do them. Like I can just button mash and opt out at any time. You can still bail from bad trick timing, but it's much more lax. Maybe some people find this more fluid than Tricky, idk.

I think I'm realizing part of my problem with ssx3 vs tricky. Its so floaty. And winding up spins to rotate faster doesn't work anymore. There's just so little weight to any of your movement now. Maybe it had to be toned down to make the new areas easier to traverse, idk. But i don't like it!

I love them both. Honestly Saturn gives me a more fun variety to play but N64 had the best games of the gen. PS1 probably had the most even of both kinds of game, but was master of neither.

I guess i just never bought the hype on 3. At least not to the point of viewing it as the undisputed champion of the SSX franchise. Tricky just kinda clears it, I'm sorry. Not that it's a perfect game either, and 3 does improve on SOME things about it, like adding manuals and rail tricks. But yeah.

I wouldn't be as fussy about it if a lot of its decisions didn't point towards the series's decay / disappearance. 3 kind of locked in the games getting easier, the personality being less loud, and the environments getting less experimental. It on it's own is really fun, but so is On Tour and 2012.

I've been playing all the SSX games lately and its kinda crazy how much i prefer Tricky over SSX3. It's still fun, but the personality was zapped out of 3, and I find the courses to be really samey. Plus 3 just feels too easy to do tricks in? Not nearly as much risk. Also Rahzel >>> DJ Atomika.
