people have valid experiences but it's so unproductive and unserious to see certain voices say this city is gotham, worthy of nothing less than martial law. anyone who's migrated here from certain parts of the world knows how ridiculous that sounds. toronto's the safest place I've ever lived in!

a very pleasant car-lite spadina last weekend for toronto's chinatown festival. although it's not a full pedestrianization, turning a 4+ lane road into a 2 lane street really makes a noticeable difference. so much fewer cars and car-noise through this lovely part of town.

it's not just bad badford, other candidates are making this their platform. right wingers and centrists are fabricating a crime wave when toronto is very safe, violent crime is statistically way, way down, and the TTC is safer than it's ever been in the last couple years.

"hire another 1,000 police officers" is really just the toronto political candidates' version of "send another $20 billion to israel"

toronto does libraries right. our current mayor has managed to open every single library branch on all 7 days of the week. i don't believe any other major city has achieved the same in north america, not even nyc. we have the best library system in the world 🤭

sometimes i just wanna have ingredients to make my own cheesy arepas for breakfast, but toronto punishes me with a 1+ hour transit ride to find the right grocer. on the other hand, i have yet to discover guyanese people in vancouver. i better not be the only one, too much responsibility

i always tell myself that one reason to stay in toronto over vancouver is the diversity, and my sense of belonging within the diversity of toronto. however, recently discovering that metro vancouver has a latin american grocery chain (unlike toronto) is challenging this excuse

on the other hand, i admire how mamdani approaches transit in new york, which comes across as more relevant and in-tune with people by addressing affordability as well as the very known speed/reliability issues on NYC buses. it feels genuine, unlike when bass throws free fare slop at the wall.

usually, if *all* a politician has to say about improving transit in your city is "make it free for everyone", it's a good sign that they don't really have a grasp on the state of transit in their city, or what riders want.

Politicians from Brad Bradford to Josh Matlow are talking about more policing but none of them are talking about the widespread corruption we’re seeing in the Toronto force (or across Canada). I think this is a big problem.

downtown toronto has a lot of nice waterfront space from the last decade(s) but they often have a clutter of public and private uses separating them, feels a little disjointed, and lack the open yet tranquil setting i usually seek out by the water. this new park is just huge.

really excited for this next phase of biidaasige park. having a direct interface with the lake is nice, the sunsets will be so beautiful. sitting and staring out at big open water while in nature is one of my favourite things to do, something i miss dearly from the coasts.
